Simple But Cute Hairstyles For Short Natural Hair

I’ve been natural for the past 10 months and I have definately tried out a whole bunch of hairstyles. Today I just want to show you my go to styles on a lazy or busy day and don’t have time to make up my hair fancy. I have thin and slightly sparce hair therefore not a lot to deal with. I didn’t use styling gel on my hair because I wanted that Wild yet Tammed natural look. Applying gel would only weigh my already thin and sparce hair down, I needed the volume.

What You Will Need
*hair-ties or scrunches
*brush
*rat tail comb
*large toothed comb
*headwrap
*bobby pins
*styling gel (optional)

1. Top Puffy Ponytail

This hairstyle is pretty simple and anyone can nail it really. All you do is comb your hair up, brush for a neat look then tie into a ponytail. Tie a headwrap around the areas you want to flatten down and use a large toothed comb to puff out your pony. If you however want a much cleaner look, apply styling gel of choice before brushing.

2. The Bun

Ok, this one is just like the first style just that I tied my hair back and did the headwrap trick. To make my bun I wrapped my hair around the scrunch then secured it with two strands of Marley braiding hair and a bobby pin. Adding the Marley hair gave my bun volume and made it look neater and natural. Many people always ask me if it’s my real hair and I sometimes lie and say “Yeah” or explain how I did it.

3.  Half Ghananian Braids with Puffy Ponytail

I love this hairstyle, it’s really playful yet looks sophisticated. I did a middle part up to the back of my ears and did Ghananian cornrows using just my hair but not braiding them to the ends. I then brushed up the back of my head and tied the two sections together into a puffy pony. Again if you want a cleaner look you can apply gel before plaiting.

4. Sleek Back Puff

Same procedure as The Bun but using a large toothed comb to puff out the hair instead.

5. Pompadour with Puffy Ponytail

So I sectioned off a bit of hair at the front making sure to leave the sides flat. Tying the rest of the hair back and creating a puff, I then twisted the sectioning at the ends pushing it to the front then securing it down with a bobby pin. Again I’m not a gel or edges girl but if you are, tame that hair for a sleek look.

6. High Side Bang

This is achieved by removing the bobby pin on the pompadour style and just pulling the hair to the side and securing it with a bobby pin.

7. Side Puffs

Another playful look, do a middle part through to the back. Brush your sections down and tie them with ponytail holders/scrunches. Puff your hair out and you are done. You can rock this when out with friends, to a party or even school.

I really love these styles because they are easy, cute and can be done in 5mins or less. Hairstyles 1 to 6 can be worn with formal or casual outfits and to sophisticated events. I do have a bit of highlight on my hairline that’s why it seems thinned but it’s just the colour. Will post a close-up pic on Instagram so make sure to follow me there by clicking HERE.

Hope you enjoyed the styles and will try out one or more even if you have longer hair. Do remember to keep your hair moisturized and stay beautiful

xx Maxine
